Taras Shevchenko Embankment

The construction of the right bank of the Moscow River began in the middle of the XIX century, and the embankment that appeared there was called Dorogomilovskaya. The centenary of the great Ukrainian poet, artist and novelist Taras Shevchenko served as an occasion to give her a new name.

Taras Shevchenko Embankment is connected by three bridges with opposite embankments. The first bridge is Bagration, named after the famous commander, hero of the Patriotic War of 1812. This is a rare case when the bridge performs an exclusively trade and pedestrian function and is a kind of portal that connects the Moscow City business center with Tower 2000. By the way, this bridge has an unglazed observation deck.

If you walk further along the promenade, you can see several descents to the river, forming open areas: from which you can admire the World Trade Center, which is located on the opposite shore. For obvious reasons, swimming in the Moscow River is prohibited, and therefore you should not tempt fate and violate the ban.

After proceeding further, you will pass modern business Moscow and reach the beginning of the 1990s: from here you will see the Government House of the Russian Federation located on the opposite bank, which was before the collapse of the Soviet The Union was called the House of Soviets This building became memorable after the coup, also known as the dispersal of the Congress of People's Deputies and the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation, when the building was subjected to tank fire. It was reconstructed in 1994. A little further away are the famous Stalinist skyscrapers. One of the most remarkable is the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. It was built in the late 1940s and reaches a height of 172 meters.

After passing the Novoarbatsky steel-reinforced concrete beam bridge, you will be able to admire one of the most picturesque monuments of the capital's architecture — the Ukraina Hotel, which is now called Radisson Collection Hotel. The building was built in the 1950s, at that time Ukraina was the largest European hotel.

The last bridge remaining on our way along the embankment is Smolensky, which has been connecting Smolenskaya and Kievskaya metro stations since 1937.
